About this business
BIOKO Treats takes its name from the island in Equatorial Guinea where Tetteh Quarshie, acknowledged as the founding father of commercial cocoa production in Ghana, first discovered the cocoa bean. Like Quarshie, Bioko is also born and bred in Osu. Our handmade chocolates only use Ghana’s Forastero cocoa and the freshest local ingredients to give you treats you deserve.
Since its inception, Bioko treats, has always sought to redefine and perfect the art of chocolate making. Guided by her love for deserts Jeanne Donkoh ( head chocolatier )has mastered the craft of fusing indigenous flavours using innovative techniques. Before Jeanne trained at Barry Callebaut Chocolate Academy she was involved in the hotel industry for several years and her home has over the years been the location for large and small family gatherings because of her great meals. Although praised for the quality of her meals her chocolate desserts got the best compliments After retiring from the hotel industry, Jeanne decided to pursue marketing her chocolate offerings and Bioko was born.
Jeanne makes everything in small batches from her cozy home in Osu, using recipes she has developed over the years. Each delicately hand painted treat is carefully designed and made with care and thought. Utilising the full bodied flavour of Ghanaian cocoa and imbuing a variety of flavours and nuances of ginger, coffee, rum, coconut, caramel & a variety of other elements . Bioko works with the best cocoa pushing the palette boundaries to create individual unique experiences which leaves no two treats the same.
Bioko’s chocolates are carefully and lovingly hand made in small batches, with the aim of bringing to our customers, desirable, affordable chocolates with an unmatchable personal touch.
